Gas patterns recognition
Battery Thermal Runaway
In EVs, a cell fault can cascade into thermal runaway. The safety target is clear: detect early and give passengers at least 5 minutes to exit and the driver time to stop safely. Traditional indicators based on temperature, voltage imbalance or pack pressure often react too late or inconsistently. EnviCam reads early gas signatures to issue earlier, more reliable alerts.

Detecting the early signs of battery thermal runaway
Battery thermal runaway remains one of the most critical safety risks in electric vehicles. What starts as a minor internal shift can rapidly escalate into a fire, often without much warning. But science shows there is a warning.
Before a battery reaches runaway temperatures, it begins to emit a unique mix of gases: CO₂, H₂, CO, C₂H₄, and hydrocarbons compounds. These emissions start early, sometimes at just 90–150 °C, offering a vital opportunity for early detection.
At VOCSens, our multi-gas sensing technology recognizes these evolving gas patterns in real time. By detecting even the subtlest chemical changes, our sensors can trigger early intervention, before the situation becomes dangerous.
Unlike traditional smoke or thermal detectors, our sensors provide a proactive, intelligent layer of safety, protecting people, equipment, and complying with the latest safety regulations. Smarter sensing. Safer batteries.
